A Colorful Summer *

As a mom, in today's world, I am so glad for the simple things...a box of crayons, water colors, sidewalk chalk. It is so nice to watch the kids be creative and express themselves...and to spend hours busy entertaining themselves with the favorites of my own childhood. Not that I let my kids spend a lot of time on the computer, iPod, iPad or watching TV, but some days it sure feels like that is the primary source of entertainment and that is why it is so refreshing to watch them color and create.

There is just something so inviting about a blank concrete driveway when you have a pack of sidewalk chalk. There is something about having such a large canvas to color on. At our house, we tend to draw rainbows, sunshine, our names and roadways. I love when they make roadways and then grab their scooters to travel the routes that they drew...and the stories about how when you get to the dead end your scooter flies to the other side of the pathway and reenters.

I think as a mom, one of my favorite new products from recent years is Color Wonder...I love that I don't have to worry about colors winding up on all sorts of other surfaces in my house, with the special Color Wonder markers, the color only shows up on the Color Wonder paper. That is pretty awesome! I am really excited about their new Color Wonder Glitter Paper and Markers. My daughter absolutely loves glitter, but it seems that we get glitter everywhere...whether from a craft or a new shirt that glitters. It can be a pain to clean up, so knowing that this product gives her the glitter effects with no glitter mess is a good thing in my book.

Their Color Wonder Mini Stow and Go is perfect for entertaining the kids on the go. The container has space to securely store 6 Color Wonder markers and a small pad of paper. It comes with three markers, but we filled ours with some of our other markers...to give us the most variety when we are coloring on the go. The small paper pad it comes with is plain color wonder paper, allowing the kids to use their imagination to color whatever comes to mind. The container makes a perfect writing surface for them in the car...fitting easily in their small laps.

Crayola & General Mills BTS at Target - #giveaway

Have you been busy doing back to school shopping? We have been at my house. It actually started back in early July for me, when I started to do some uniform shopping online. Then came the early school supply ads that we would pick up while we were out. Crayola High-Tech Holidays

When it comes to selecting toys for my kids, I like to try to find things that will spark their creativity. Creativity, in my opinion, is one of those things that you have to really exercise to have. Creativity really allows you to think outside of the box and is a definite assist when you are trying to solve problems. Creativity can come in many forms, it can be artistry, storytelling, problem solving, decorating, and more.

Toys 'R Us Deals! - 7/23

A few weeks back, I had received a Toys 'R Us circular that had a $10/$50 coupon attached. I had set it aside, hoping that I might get up to the nearest Toys 'R Us before the coupon expired. As I was cleaning up the counter yesterday, I came across it and saw that it was expiring today. After flipping through the circular and their weekly ad, I decided that when we were out today to go to a birthday party, that I would try to stop by.

I went under the assumption that my total after sales needed to be $50, but after the way that everything rang up, I'm thinking that I could have possibly done a before sale total.

This might look like a Crayola ad, it's not, there just were some great deals from Crayola that I could use.

Total $47.84, saved $49.94. The art set is a birthday gift for my niece, who loves to do crafts (shh, don't tell her). The Dry Erase markers are a school supply that we need every year, so I figured that with the B1G2 sale, I would just set the others aside for next year. The Dry Erase Dual Board and Dry Erase Crayons seem like a good diversion to bring along on our vacation - we have many hours in which to provide entertainment. Plus, I just think that the Dry Erase Crayons are an interesting concept. The TailBall game is an attempt to offer my kids one other backyard diversion - so that I don't have to hear that there is nothing to do.

The one thing that we had hoped to get, but didn't was Crayola 48ct Crayons. As my son said, how can they offer 8, 16, 24, and 96 but not have 48 count? Oh well, hopefully someone has them on deal so that we can pick them up for my son's school supply list.

I feel pretty good about everything that I got and really, a savings of over 50% (the $47.84 was only $44.92 before tax) is pretty good.

Crayola Creativitycast

Did you have a chance to join in on the Crayola Creativitycast last Tuesday night? The topic was Affordable Fun 101. There were some great ideas and tips shared. Some of them took me back to my childhood as people shared about pot holder looms and melting crayon shavings between wax paper. It gave me some great ideas to do with my kids.

With back to school just around the corner, Crayola wants to help you get ready with tips and creative ideas to make the back to school season less stressful and more fun! Starting July 28 and every Tuesday night (9 pm Eastern) through the month of August, Crayola is sponsoring "Girls Night Out" on Twitter - the mommy social gathering featuring colorful and engaging discussions on all things back-to-school. Crayola has teamed up with MomItForward.com, the creator of "Girls Night Out" (GNO), to bring you the "Crayola Creativitycast." The weekly Crayola Creativitycast will feature a new topic each week, to help you better prepare your kids for the best back to school ever. Tweet the night away with other moms, Crayola creativity experts, and noted mommy bloggers, and get great ideas to help you prepare for the best back to school ever for your kids!

This week's theme will be Back-to-School Basics.

Here's how it works:

Every Sunday through Tuesday, you can RSVP for the party by clicking on the RSVP post on MomItForward.com. There, you can include your Twitter URL in the link list and see the list of others that plan to participat in the GNO party on Twitter. (In the event that Mr. Linky is not showing up in the RSVP post, please leave your Twitter URLs in the comments, this will allow everyone to know who is participating and follow them.)
