Ellie by PV Body - save 20%!

The other night I was watching the Biggest Loser. It was Makeover week and I noticed that along with makeover week, they start wearing different stuff at weigh in. The men have stopped taking off their shirts and the women have switched from saggy, baggy to fitted. The thing that is most noticeable is how much better they look.

It got me to thinking how much better I feel when I am wearing clothes that fit right. When I wear saggy, baggy clothes, I tend to have a lower body image. Now that is not something that happens or that I think about when I am relaxing at home, but I do think about it when I am going out, going to work, or working out.

Last month I mentioned that I had gotten some new work out clothes through PV Body. At the time, they were sending outfits from assorted lines, but now they have launched their own line called Ellie. Now that I work out in a group exercise class several times a week and walk on a fully lit track, I feel that I need to wear clothes that are both comfortable and fit. The clothes that I received from their February collection are just that.

The pants were a pair of black capris with a bright pink waist band - they hit me mid-waist and are fairly fitted. That is a good thing - I have a pair of capris that are really flared and I always manage to catch my water bottle on my pants leg during spinning class, which sends the water bottle across the room and leaves me having to clamor off the bike to retrieve it during recovery. In general, I like the way that a fitted pant also helps me remember to pull my abs in while walking or running. It helps me maintain my posture. Plus, I feel like the fitted pants show off my curves - sure they are more generous than I prefer, but I feel better about me when the clothes are fitted (fitted not tight).

The shirt is perhaps one of the softest workout shirts that I own - I love it. It is a soft pink color. It is a longer cut - that works for me, shirts that are too short make me look extra wide - because they make me look straight from the top to the hip. Again, the shirt I chose is a little bit fitted - not tight, fitted. I really like it. It seems to move with me and doesn't get twisted or pull up as a work out. Having worked out in front of a mirror now, I realize that some of my less fitted shirts seem to leave me with skin showing when I am stretching and doing some of the exercises.

Ellie is "a fitness apparel brand that marries fashion and quality!" Join their Fit Fashionista Club and for only $49.95 / month (click here when you sign up and Save 20% on Ellie! - making it only $39.96). With the Fit Fashonista Club you receive two pieces (any price) from that month's collection. Order by the 7th of each month to choose your own, or they will select an outfit for you. Of course, you can always buy pieces on their own, without joining the club.

I love that they update their designs each month and because they are their own designs, I have less chance of finding myself wearing the same workout clothes as the woman next to me (that happened one time at Zumba - I felt a little uncomfortable, because of course, I felt that their outfit fit them better that mine did). I also like that their clothes wash up well, they are washer and dryer friendly.

Why don't you check out Ellie and find workout clothes for your style and fitness activities.

pv.body

I never used to have much concern or consideration for my workout clothes. Most of my exercise would take place in my family room or in the fuzzy light of pre-dawn. If I saw people, it certainly wasn't many and not usually the same people even. When I worked out at home, it wasn't uncommon for me to put on a workout top and keep on my pajama bottoms. Or, if I did change, I didn't worry much about them matching.

Now that I am working out most mornings at the Y, in organized classes, I feel like there is suddenly a need to be concerned about my workout fashion. I want to have clothes that are comfortable, but reasonably fashionable (matching?). There seems to be a common group of people that take the classes each morning, so having variety is also important so that I don't have to wear the same outfit each day.

pv.body is a company that, once you sign up and complete a survey of what type of athlete you are, they send you an awesome complete outfit of fitness apparel in brands people love – Lululemon, ALO, Nux, Nike, etc. Best of all, each outfit is only $49 (~$150 ARV).

pv. body keeps things simple. Basically, you take a quick quiz (answering questions about your favorite types of workouts, your size, style, color palettes you like, etc.) and a personal pv. body style profile is created for you. The pv. body team puts together a personalized outfit for you each month and ships it to you. You can decide how frequently you want to get a new outfit and take breaks from shipments too. Products are offered in sizes XS - L.

Want to check it out? As a special for A Busy Mom of Two readers, you can get 20% off your first outfit if you sign up through my link. This makes it only $39/month for a new workout outfit.
As a special bonus, after you sign up through the above link, you can then come back here and use this link to take the pv.body 30 Day Challenge and kick start your New Year resolutions and receive tons of fun prizes. (IMPORTANT: Please note that you will not receive the discount if you sign up for the challenge first; you have to sign up through the discount link above to receive the 20% off.) The pv.body 30 day challenge provides you with your own personal dietitian and trainer to help you meet your fitness and health goals. Everyday, our pv.body babes will be given a new challenge that they can share with friends! Challenges include workouts, recipes, meal plans, group activities and more!

No compensation was received for this post. As a pv.body ambassador, I will receive one free workout outfit based on my survey responses, so that I can experience the service. The discount link is also my referral link.

The Children's Place - extra 20% off and free shipping

I have been doing a lot of ordering online lately, I love to shop, but get frustrated when I can't find what I am looking for. Both of my kids will wear a uniform to school next year, so doing school shopping ahead of time is easy. One place that I am able to find the navy bottoms and white tops that I need is The Children's Place. A few weeks ago, I took advantage of a sale and ordered some shorts and some short sleeve uniform pieces for the kids.

Last night, I was catching up on some e-mails and saw that The Children’s Place is offering free shipping through July 4, 2012 on any size order. Not only that, but there is a coupon code available for an additional 20% off. Simply enter coupon code J7H2012 when you checkout.

This time, I grabbed some long sleeve uniform shirts for $7.50 and $7.77 each (why are the girl versions more expensive?) but also shopped the clearance section where I got my son a pair of jeans for $10.80, some tank tops for next summer at $3.19 each, and my daughter a shorts and tank outfit for next summer for under $10.

I love that aside from picking up some uniform plaid for my daughter, that the kids are just about ready from a clothing perspective for school and I haven't had to leave the house to get ready.

Fresh Produce Clothing

I love to wear dresses, but I seem to always have trouble finding dresses that are versatile enough to go from work to the weekend. As a busy mom, there are many times where I find myself going from work to daycare to soccer or baseball. Having a dress that I can wear to work, but still feel comfortable wearing at the ball field is something that makes the transition easier. In addition, I struggle with 'single' use items. I want to make sure that when I am buying clothing that I can get the most out of it. I try to find shirts that can be dressy paired with slacks or casual paired with Khakis or jeans. Dresses that I can wear on the weekend or add a jacket and dress it up for work.

I recently learned about a women's clothing retailer that was co-founded and run by a mom entrepreneur - Fresh Produce. Fresh Produce offers clothes that are made primarily in the USA. You can order direct through their website, or find Fresh Produce clothing is available at 25 company-owned retail boutique and at more than 500 independent retailers throughout the continental US, Canada, Hawaii and the Caribbean. The best part about Fresh Produce is that they are dedicated to designing feel-good clothes that women want to wear every day.

When I first visited the site, I was amazed by the variety of dresses for spring and summer that were available on their site. With a variety of styles and fabrics, there seemed to be options that would work great for weekend wear, but also a number that could work for both work and weekend. I had a hard time trying to decide which dress to try. In the end, I went with the Twist Front Dress in Black. It struck me as a versatile dress that I could dress up with a scarf or pearls, or go casual with a pair of sandals.

In addition to dresses, they have a great assortment of casual clothes - shorts, skirts, shirts, beach cover-ups, sweaters, cardigans, jackets and more! The fabrics and cuts just seem so fresh and relaxed. Again, even with their casual clothes, there were many pieces that I know would be versatile enough to also wear to work. They also offer a children's line for girls. The dresses were so cute, I might just have to pick up some for my daughter. My favorite is the Girl's Happyness Twirly Dress - what little girl doesn't love spinning around and watching her dress twirl around her.

I tried to include a picture of me in the dress, but it was so windy, my face was scrunchy and my hair a mess. So, I will have to try again another calmer day.

No compensation was received for this post. A dress was provided by Fresh Produce for my review. All opinions expressed are my own or that of my family.

Lodi Station Outlets: A Real Departure

When I first started shopping at what is now Lodi Station Outlets, it was just another outlet mall. It had the standard assortment of stores and a food court. Then a few years ago, it underwent a rebranding and a transformation. It went from being an outlet mall to being a shopping experience. Where once were just walkways and grass, now there are train tracks and trains. They used the names of historic local train stations to name the stations on the Lodi Line. Part of their goal was to help preserve the heritage of Ohio's rich train history. You can read more about their stations here.

I was first drawn to the (now) Lodi Station Outlets when I was expecting my son. I liked the outlet malls over the regular mall for a few reasons.

First, many of the stores feature outlet pricing. I say many, because there are quite a few stores that now actually manufacture a separate line for their outlet stores. They sell those along with some items from their regular stores. Some of these items are a good value and others are not much different than what you find at a sale in a regular store. When I was a kid, I can remember that going to outlet stores (not conveniently grouped in malls) meant that you had to dig through stacks of clothing and products to find your size and then you had to inspect it because what was sold at outlets was a mix of seconds and last seasons products. Sometimes those seconds were missing buttons (easy to correct) or had a bad zipper (not so easy for me to correct), sometimes the fabric was cut at a strange angle or seams were twisted, sometimes there were holes or other defects, but you generally could get amazing deals. Many of the outlet stores (now conveniently grouped in a mall setting) still offer great deals, but they are mixed with these separate lines that are not always as deep of a discount.

Second, I liked that they featured many unique stores that I couldn't find at other locations. Stores like Carter's and OshKosh B'Gosh. Sure I could buy Carter's or OshKosh B'Gosh clothing at many retailers, but this was the only place where I could go and purchase from their full line. I could buy this seasons clothes discounted slightly from regular price or comparable to sales at other retailers, but I could also pick up clothes from last season (or even last year) at a significant discount. Couple that with the coupons that are provided by many outlet stores, when you sign up with your e-mail, and I could get some great values.

Third, I liked that I could park relatively close to the store(s) that I wanted to shop at and could quickly get in and out of the outlet mall, as compared to the regular mall where the stores I wanted always were scattered about and I had to walk a good distance from where I parked to the stores. To that end, Lodi Station Outlets is well arranged in my opinion. The Children's Place, Gymboree, Carter's and OshKosh B'Gosh are all practically in neighboring store fronts and across the walkway you can find Motherhood Maternity. Love that!

The addition of the train and train rides to Lodi Station Outlets was a win/win opportunity from my perspective as a mom. Having something fun like a train ride to help incentivize the children to come shopping with me, to listen, to stay close and allow me to have them try on clothes is a great thing. As we move from store to store, the kids are always excited to catch a glimpse of the train driving past. There is just something so magical about watching trains, and having them full of waving passengers adds to the fun. Then, at the end of our shopping, assuming everyone behaved, we can all climb aboard for a trip through and around the outlets. The only drawback is that even when I just need to stop by to pick up something quick, they still want to ride the train. Of course, seeing their mascot Chugga Chugga Charlie is another thing my kids look forward too. They like to see him, but getting them to do more than wave can be a challenge.
The outlets also feature a playground for the kids, and an adjacent amphitheater. You can even host your child's birthday party at Lodi Station Outlets. For your party, you get the use of a party room, goodie bags for the guests and can select from several Lodi Station Outlet Food Court vendors for the lunch. The birthday child even gets to be the train engineer as the party guests take a train ride.

I will admit that until recently, most of my outlet shopping at Lodi Station Outlets was for my kids. Then, I left the expectant mom/children row of stores and explored the other rows of stores at the outlet. They have a lot to offer. I have gotten many great deals on shoes and clothes for myself. It is difficult to get to spend time shopping in stores for me, but with the train ride as incentive, I can do it!

Yesterday, the family and I had the opportunity to visit and explore Lodi Station Outlets as part of their VIP Blogger Day.

We started our day by enjoying lunch at their own Steam Cafe. The Steam Cafe serves an assortment of sandwiches and salads, a daily special and of course, a full offering of smoothies and coffee drinks. My son and husband each enjoyed a turkey sandwich with a pickle and chips and a cup of MelloYellow (it seems like a treat when you find a restaurant that serves MelloYellow). My daughter made a departure from the menu and ordered a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. It came with chips and fruit snacks. I tried one of their specials, the Summer Plate. It came with three scoops of my choice of egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad and cottage cheese, as well as lettuce, tomato, a hard-boiled egg and some saltine crackers.

After enjoying our lunch, we got set up with Premiere Passes. These passes, available for purchase, allow you to ride the train on each visit for a year. Train tickets are $3.50 for a ride all day pass on the weekdays. On weekdays, the train makes stops at all of the stations throughout the Outlets and riders can hop off and on at these stops. Tickets are $3 on the weekend for a round-trip ticket and are for a specific departure time. On the weekends, the train does not stop at the stations, other than Central Station, but rather makes an approximately 15 minute loop through and around the Outlets.

Then, it was off to shop. I had a quickly compiled list of some things that I wanted to look for - some of which, I wasn't sure I would find, but gave it a shot.

We stopped first at the Crazy For Scrapbooks store looking for Googly Eyes for my daughter's latest craft project. They have a wide assortment of scrapbooking supplies, but only one kit that contained Googly Eyes and since we didn't need all of the extras, we decided to skip it.

Then, it was off to the kitchen store. I had a covered cake pan that I had thrown out just that morning, as it had started to rust and was leaving rust marks on the other dishes in my strainer. I was able to find exactly what I was looking for and for only $5.29 with tax.

Next stop was to The Children's Place. This is one of my favorite stores. They generally have a wide selection and offer good discounts on the clothes that they have. I have signed up for their e-mails and regularly get coupons in my e-mail. Today, I was shopping with an additional 20% off coupon. I was able to get two pairs of jeans, a t-shirt and shorts for my daughter and a pair of shorts and two shirts for my son. In total, we spent $37.43 with tax. Not too bad for seven pieces of clothing!

Next, it was into Carter's. We were shopping for a baby gift and quickly found some cute pants and a monkey shirt. While in the store, we ventured back to check out their clothes for older kids and found a shirt for my daughter. Here, our total was $17.01 with tax.

We perused a few stores like Reebok and Adidas, while my husband looked to see if they had anything for him. He liked a few shirts, but didn't find one in the size/fit that he was looking for.

Our next stop was at the VF outlets, my daughter and I heading to the women's store and my husband and son to the men's store. He didn't find anything, but I picked up a pair of slacks, a pair of capris and three pairs of black socks. There was a $5/$35 coupon in the Lodi Station Paper, so my total wound up at $33.88 after coupon.

Next, we stopped at one of their newer (at least to me) stores, 4th and Goal. This store carries a selection of sports memorabilia and team gear. We watched a replay of Derek Jeter's 3000 hit on their TV and then picked up two pairs of Yankees socks, one for each child and my husband grabbed a 1991 Classic MLB Trivia Board Game. Here we spent $8.50 with tax.

Our next stop was at the Black and Decker Outlet, another relatively new store to the Lodi Station Outlets. This store featured a wide selection of household appliances (toaster ovens, coffee makers, dust busters), yard tools and tools. My husband was able to pick up a Refurbished Cordless Trimmer for only $30, after 10% off coupon from the Lodi Station Paper. According to the staff, the refurbished products could have a different color plastic or could have been sent back to the factory for a missing part. They even carry a full 2 year warranty. My husband commented that he felt the prices in this store were very reasonable and that he would come back when he needed tools.

At that point, we were shopped out. The kids were anxious to ride the train, so we dropped off all of our goodies in our car and headed back to the Food Court and Central Station. We boarded the train and enjoyed the relaxing 15 minute train ride through the Outlet property. After our train ride, we headed over to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for some ice cream to cap the day.

Thanks to Nichole and Lodi Station Outlets for inviting us to participate in the Lodi Station VIP Blogger Day. We had a great time and were able to find some great deals.

Here is what we got while shopping on Saturday, minus the trimmer:
I am ready to return and do some more shopping. The kids are ready to go back and ride the train anytime that we are ready to take them. Imagine that, my kids asking me to take them shopping (well sort of)!

No compensation was received for this post. As an invitee to the Lodi Station VIP Blogger Day, we were received a $100 gift card to shop at and experience the mall, vouchers for free lunch and ice cream, complimentary train tickets and a Premiere Pass good through 2012, and a bag with goodies and coupons from many of the stores at Lodi Station Outlets. All opinions expressed are mine or those of my family.

Seamless Camis

I will admit, I am not the most fashion conscious person. Probably explains, in part, why my daughter has no qualms about dressing like Rainbow Brite, mixing patterns and colors without concern. It's not that I don't want to be fashionable, it's mostly just that since I have had children, taking the time to shop for me really has taken a backseat. I used to love to linger and try things on, now, if I'm with kids, I just want to be done with shopping and if I am alone, I'm usually still racing the clock to get everything squeezed in. When I finish losing the weight that I would like to lose, I would love to self-nominate for 'What Not to Wear'. I know that I have things that really don't work for my body type, but yet, I still don't make the effort to get rid of them and find something that does.

One thing that is fashionable that I have decided that I absolutely love are seamless camis. I had a couple of lingering camis from my maternity wardrobe. They were the stretchy kind and they still fit, so I just kept wearing them. Then, this past year, as I picked up a few new sweaters, I grabbed some camis to go under them. I loved them so much, that when I had a 30% off coupon at Kohl's this past winter, my main concern was to get to the store and pick them up in other colors.
http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif
After wearing them with a few items, I realized how versatile they were. First, I have issue with some button down items (blouses and cardigans alike), where an improperly placed button causes a shirt that otherwise fits to bulge open. With the addition of the cami, I no longer have to worry about exposing myself if it does, or, with some of the fitted button down shirts, I just leave that top button undone and you see just the top of the cami and no embarrassing bulge. Second, I love them for underneath things when I am wearing my jeans and certain dress pants. By wearing the cami, I no longer have to worry that if my shirt is too short and I lean forward that my underwear are hanging out. Third, although thin, and only on my torso, they do provide an extra layer of warmth under thinner shirts in the winter time.

I may not be the most fashionably conscious, but my seamless camis work for me!

Organically Grown

In honor of Earth Day, I thought it was a great day to share with you about a company that is offering some great organic products - Organically Grown.

What is Organically Grown, you ask? They are an on-line boutique that offers high-quality organic products that range from apparel to home decor to personal care items. All of their clothing is made from organic cotton, which is grown by safe, pesticide-free methods from plants that are not genetically modified. They support the organic farming community and organizations worldwide that are committed to a green, sustainable environment. In addition, all of their children's clothing is safe, stylish, and affordable. Right now, their kids collection is on sale for prices of $18-$22 per outfit. (In addition to their children's clothing, be sure to check out their new Active Wear collection for women. I'm thinking it might be time to pick up some new workout clothing.)

Organically Grown was kind enough to send me an outfit from their kids collection to review. The collection is comprised of adorable two-piece outfits for boys and girls in sizes 12-24 months and 2T-4T. Each outfit features a cute and eco friendly slogan on the t-shirt.
The outfit that I received has a soft, light green shirt with an embroidered tree on it. The tree includes some heart shaped leaves and a couple of pink birds. The bottom of the tree has the message 'Think Green'. The shirt is tag free, which I really like because tags in shirts frequently irritate my daughter's neck. The matching shorts are a brown color that matches the embroidered tree and feature an elastic waist. The quality of construction appears to be very nice. My daughter loves the outfit - I will say, she is a typical girl and loves to get new clothes. She also loves mail, so to have a new outfit arrive by mail, made it a special treat for her. Of course, since the weather here in Ohio is still more like winter than spring, she hasn't had a chance to wear this short's outfit yet.

In addition to their collection, they also have an Infant Collection! According to Organically Grown, some of their best sellers include three-piece sets with baby gowns, body suits, jackets, pants, blankets and hats, all on padded hangers and priced between $12-38.

Why organic, you ask? Organically Grown's perspective on this question is: "As the awareness of the effect that pesticides and toxins have on the environment and individual health grows, more and more families are realizing the importance of choosing organic products. Making this choice is not only good for our earth; it is good for all of us. With your help, organic textile production will increase, becoming more of a standard in the clothing industry."

Organic cotton has all the high quality, soft and cuddly texture of cotton with none of the harsh chemicals to irritate your child’s skin. "With products by ORGANICALLY GROWN, there is no need to compromise between your budget and your conscience. As well as being ECO-FRIENDLY, our clothes are AFFORDABLE and STYLISH."

Be sure to check out their website and store. You can also friend Organically Grown on Facebook.

Clothing Finds...

The other evening, I needed to head to the store to pick up some ice cream topping for my daughter's daycare for a sundae buffet they were doing as part of their ice cream theme week. When I pulled in the plaza, I remembered that I had heard that Fashion Bug was going out of business. As a general rule, I have never been a big shopper at Fashion Bug, but on occasion, when I have stopped in, I have usually found something that I liked. I stopped at the Fashion Bug, which is closing in 9 days (I guess it would be 7 now). Most things were 60% off of lowest sticker price, but they had a few racks that were $7 each or $4 each if you bought 3 or more. Now, simple math says you never buy two items, as it costs $2 less if you buy one more thing. I selected a handful of shirts to try on. They had some pants, but none that I liked in my size. I was able to find two button down shirts for work, one short sleeve shirt with a unique neck that I can wear under suits to work, two casual shirts and one workout shirt. In total, the 6 shirts were $26.00 (turns out one was from a different rack than where I had found it). According to my receipt, the regular price was $101.00, so I saved about 75%.

I hate to see stores going out of business, but I love the deals that I can get when they do. It was funny, they had signs hanging on the door and in the fitting rooms that said something to the effect of buy it now, it may not be here tomorrow. I'm curious if the items I bought will be cheaper or not - not that it matters, as all sales are final during a store closing.

JCPenney - Clearance Finds

On Sunday, between seeing Toy Story 3 and dinner at the Macaroni Grill, we made a stop at JCPenney. They seem to have a lot of great stuff on clearance right now. I am always looking for new clothes to refresh my work wardrobe and I like to buy next season for the kids when it is cheap.

I was able to get 3 pairs of shorts, 4 summer shirts and a pair of tennis shoes for my daughter, 3 shirts and 1 pants/shorts/shirt pajama set for my son, and 2 blouses, 1 sweater and 1 pair of slacks for me. There weren't any bonus coupons (I asked if there were any I might have missed), but I was still able to get all of this for only $117 plus tax. I saved $214, meaning I had gotten $331 worth of clothes and shoes for only $117, about 65% savings. I feel pretty good about that. The sad thing is the most expensive thing I purchased was the Spiderman Pajama set for $17.49.

The collection is comprised of adorable two-piece outfits for boys and girls in sizes 12-24 months, and 2T-4T. Each outfit features a cute and eco friendly slogan on the t-shirt.
The outfit that I received has a soft, pastel yellow shirt with a pink quilted butterfly applique that says "Pretty Natural". The shirt is tag free, which I really like because tags in shirts frequently irritate my daughter's neck.
