Shopping Deals

I did my weekend shopping today.

Target:

Thanks to Marin at Frugonomics 101 for pointing out the deal on the PopTarts. I took my coupons from the Fuel for School flyer in the paper a few weeks ago, the Target coupons for the PopTarts, and some from the Kellogg's coupon book that was on display at a local grocery store. I wound up with the following:

4 - PopTarts
4 - Keebler Cookies
2 - Eggo Waffles
1 - Gallon Milk

This ran me $17.00. I received $10 in Target GC at check out and am submitting the purchase for the $10 Fuel for School rebate. So, I was paid $3 to take it all home.

I turned around and spent my gift cards and got the following:

2 - cat treats
1 - container wet cat food (had a free coupon)
1 - boy's shorts
1 - boy's sweatpants
4 - Suave Kid's Bodywash

After my $10 GC, it cost me $3.13 out of pocket. Not a bad day. $20 OOP for a lot of stuff that we will use and $10 of it will be coming back in the form of a rebate.

Giant Eagle:
Then, after putting away my perishables, I headed to Giant Eagle to use my FYB coupons from August All*You Magazine. They had KoolAid for 10 cents a piece. I got the free Kraft salad dressing, Oscar Mayer hot dogs, Wheat Thins, and Kraft Singles. I also did my weekly shopping, getting 3# chicken breast tenders, 2# ground meat, some Ball Park Hot dogs, a loaf of bread, 3 packages of yogurt, 2# butter, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce/paste, bananas, grapes, carrots, raisins, lunch meat and cheese, some microwave meals, 3 packages granola/cereal bars and I am sure something more. After sales and coupons, I paid $52 for $100 worth of groceries; a 48% savings.

I'm really liking reading everyone's tales of savings and applying those learnings to my shopping.

"Laborious"

How long were your labors?

Kid #1, not sure. Delivered 3 hours after being admitted to the hospital.
Kid #2, not sure. Delivered 4 hours after being admitted to the hospital.

How did you know you were in labor?

Kid #1, water leaking
Kid #2, water leaking

Where did you deliver?

At the hospital for both.

Drugs?

Not really. For #1, I was tapped for the epidural, but bag was never hung. Water broke after tap and I delivered within 30 minutes. For #2, decided #1 wasn't so bad, why bother.

C-section?

Nope.

Who delivered?

Kid #1 - The doctor who I had seen least during pregnancy from the three doctor practice.
Kid #2 - A covering doctor, the two doctors, from my now two doctor practice, were both out of town.

Money Saving Monday

I'm not sure if it just was because it was Labor Day, but we found quite a few deals today.

About 20 miles away, we have a Cinemark theater that plays second run films. Admission is $1.50 per person and $1.25 for matinees. We decided to take the kids to see a matinee showing of Kung Fu Panda and then, since it is located about a mile from Chick-fil-a, we could stop in for their Labor Day Promotion that I had read about on Money Saving Mom - wear the logo of your favorite college or professional football team and get a three pack of Chicken Strips for free.

When we were standing in line for our tickets, a movie on Labor Day is a popular idea, I noticed a sign in their window about Reel Family Time. Reel Family Time is an every Monday promotion they run, where families of 3 or more get in for 50 cents / person. You read right, 50 cents each. We all got into the movie for $2.00 total. What a deal! We had packed some snacks, but decided to splurge on popcorn. The small ran us $4.75 and was just the right amount. One nice thing, that I'm sure other theaters have and I just haven't noticed, was the booster seat for the kids. It even had it's own built in cup holder. It allowed both kids to see the movie while sitting in their own seat.

It was the first theater experience for our 21 mos old. She made it through most of the movie in her booster seat, moving to my lap and falling asleep in the last ten minutes.

The movie was cute. My son wanted to know right away if there was a Kung Fu Panda 2. So, I guess it met with his approval.

After the movie, we all donned our NY Giants gear and headed to Chick-fil-a. We got 4 3-pk Chicken Strips, a large Waffle Fry to share, a vanilla milk shake (thanks to the cashier who suggested it when my son was listening), and two small drinks. Our total for dinner was $7.78. As an added bonus, the Chick-fil-a has a kids play area. We played for a few minutes after dinner, which my son thinks is a huge treat since we don't go to many restaurants with a playland.

Movie and dinner for a family of 4, priceless. (Actually, $14.53 - not too bad!)
