Banquet Fruit Pies

A while back, I was contacted about trying out the new Banquet Fruit Pies. I am a big fan of fruit pies and enjoy Banquet Pot Pies, so it sounded like a great opportunity to me.

I sent my husband in search of the pies the first time. He looked in the dessert section, not realizing that they were located near the Banquet Pot Pies. So, when I was out earlier this week, I picked up a couple to try.

This evening, after dinner, I decided it might be the perfect time to try one of the pies. The primary directions listed are for the microwave. In just 4 short minutes, you can be enjoying a nice hot fruit pie with a flaky crust. They do offer directions for preparation in the oven, which will take 30 minutes. Honestly, if I'm going to wait 30 minutes, I will make a full pie - it loses some of the convenience factor with a long preparation time.

The kids and I shared the pie that I prepared tonight - we chose Apple Pie. One pie is a little high in calories (370 calories for the apple pie) from my perspective, but it is a treat/dessert and not out of line with what other desserts likely are. Many candy bars seem to be in the 200 calorie range and somehow don't seem as satisfying as a pie.

I will say that letting the pie sit for a few minutes after cooking is a good idea - it is really hot otherwise. I tried to remove the pie from the container to more easily share it with the kids - it broke apart, not entirely unexpectedly, but since I wasn't concerned about the visual, it was not a problem for me.

The crust is the same flaky crust that if you have had their pot pies you will be very familiar with. I was pleasantly surprised that even with microwave preparation, the crust came out flaky and not chewy.

The fruit filling was very flavorful, and refreshingly, not overly sweet. There was a good amount of spices to season the apples and the right amount of sauce around them. The apples were small dices. They didn't maintain much bite once cooked, but also weren't too mushy.

You can find Banquet Fruit Pies in the freezer section next to other Banquet meals and pot pies. There are three varieties - Apple, Peach and Cherry Berry. The suggested retail price for one fruit pie is between $0.68 and $1.00. You can find a coupon in this month's All You for $.35 on your next Banquet Fruit Pie purchase.
