Game Time Snacks

I love to host a party. There are so many appetizer type foods that I like and when I host a party, I can make a number of them and share them with others.

One item that I don't make often, but which when I was younger, I would make and put in the freezer for future snacking was - Party Ryes.

They are really simple to make and the combination of flavors is very yummy. (the visual appeal can be lacking, I won't share what one of my college roommate's boyfriends used to call them)

Party Ryes

1# Velveeta Cheese
1 T Italian Seasoning
1 T ketchup
1# sausage
1 dash steak sauce
1 loaf party rye or pumpernickel bread

Brown sausage and drain. Add cheese and melt. Stir in spices. Spoon over bread. Bake at 400 for 7-10 minutes.

To freeze, spoon cheese mixture over bread and lay in a single layer on a cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen, place in a plastic freezer bag or container. Bake at 400 for 10-15 minutes while still frozen.

My son loves anything with ketchup, so I am sure this would be a hit with him no matter what it looked like! Thanks for sharing. ~
