Sing a new song...

I love my children. I love Christmas music. I love to hear them sing Christmas music...just not at the end of January. Today, on the car ride from daycare to home, my youngest was serenading me with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Up on the Housetop.

For those of you with young children, you won't be surprised to hear that this is what I heard during the Rudolph portion of the concert:

Rudolph the red nose reindeer
had a shiny nose
if you saw it you say it glows
repeat...

Up on the Housetop, we do a slightly more complete job with:

Up on the Housetop reindeer pause
out jumps Santa Claus
down through the chimney with lots of toys
all for little ones Christmas joys
HO HO HO HO HO HO who wouldn't go (never enough Ho Ho Ho)
repeat...

Now, if only I knew more of Peter Cottontail than:

Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hopping down the bunny trail...

then, perhaps I could teach her a new holiday song to sing.

I remember my son singing along with songs but I don't remember him singing them on his own at 2. I find it very endearing to hear her sing those songs - although, more so in season, than a month later.

I guess I need to start playing the nursery rhyme disc that I have in my car. At least then, we can hear more songs and maybe some of them will catch on. I know the words to those...I sang along with those for years with my son.
